Hi my name is Marisa Quintana. I am a first year but I graduated high school with my associates so I am technically a third year. I am majoring in Art Education, that's not originally what I wanted to do but CSU doesn't offer any culinary programs. I plan on using my degree to teach middle school or high school art and later on go back to school for culinary arts. My hobbies and interests are sports, art, poetry, dancing, and honestly trying anything new, I'd like to say that I'm adventurous. In high school I played volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Another fun fact about me is that I am very intrigued by skeletons, they are one of my favorite things to draw or paint as well as the style grunge.
The art work that I chose a piece called the Artifice by Courtney Leonard. This piece was made by coiled clay then fired and glazed to give it its final look. This piece was inspired by a man made reef system that we use to encourage the growth of reef ecosystems. This piece attracted me because of the shape and the texture of the coils, in the beginning I though it looked more like a cocoa bean. I really liked this piece because it was the first piece I saw that broke the stereo type of a flat workspace.
Hi, Marisa. I was going to start out by asking if you would bake me something chocolaty, but that's probably not the way to make friends. I hope you eventually find the time to follow your dream of culinary school, though. The artwork you chose is not only interesting sculpturally, but also culturally and environmentally. This piece has an important story to tell from the artist's hands to the final destination of the sea. I love when art collides with function.
ReplyDeleteHi, Marisa!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the art piece you chose. It really does break the stereotype of needing a flat workspace to create something amazing. I am so sorry to hear that you had to change your career plans because of the lack of culinary program here at CSU-P, hopefully one day you can go to Culinary school! It's very neat that you're interested in skeletons, too.
Nice to meet you!
